Since forming in 2015, the ASPIE Avengers have provided young adults with Asperger’s and autism the opportunity to enjoy football in a welcoming, supportive and understanding environment. The team was created to help overcome the barriers that many autistic people face when joining mainstream sports clubs, giving players the confidence to participate, build friendships and enjoy the game they love.

The team has become a fantastic ambassador for ASPIE, an organisation dedicated to celebrating and promoting the talents of autistic adults across Worcestershire. Through football, players have developed confidence, improved their physical and mental wellbeing, and gained valuable life skills both on and off the pitch.

Supported by Worcestershire FA, Disability Sport and a dedicated team of volunteers and coaches, the ASPIE Avengers train throughout the year and compete in both the Three Counties Ability Counts League and the Sandwell Inclusion League. Their success has seen them receive numerous honours, including league titles, FA Community Awards, appearances at St George’s Park, and national recognition through the FA People’s Cup.

The team’s achievements extend beyond the football pitch. Several players have completed FA coaching qualifications, helping to inspire others and ensure the long-term future of the team while developing their own leadership and communication skills.

This exciting collaboration brings together two organisations that share the same values of inclusion, opportunity, respect and community. Together, we are committed to creating more opportunities for autistic players and ensuring that football is accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of ability or background.

This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, with plans already underway to work together on a range of initiatives that will benefit both clubs and the wider community.
