Ambition
Nunnery Wood FC has grown to over 30 teams, with Boys and Girls teams representing the club at all age groups in all major Worcestershire football leagues, including the Midland junior Premier Leagues (MJPL), where we compete with the best football teams in the Midlands including teams from professional clubs. If you have ambition to be scouted by a professional club, we believe the MJPL is the best environment for our most talented players.
History
Founded in 1990, Nunnery Wood FC began with a single team formed by current West Bromwich Albion youth coach John Bateman. As the club continued to grow, additional teams were introduced and our reputation quickly strengthened across both the city and the county.
The club later moved to the former Metal Box Ground on Battenhall Road, where we established our much-valued links with the University of Worcester. Today, Nunnery Wood FC is proudly based at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, working in close partnership to support the continued development of players and the club.
Development
We continually support our coaches with CPD events delivered by UEFA-B West Bromwich Albion Youth Coaching sessions and mentor all our coaches with support from experienced senior coaches and team managers. In addition, we financially support our coaches development in attaining their FA qualifications up to FA level 2.
Structure
Our club is based on a team autonomy model which gives all our managers the freedom to set their own subs, each team has their own team treasurer to jointly manage all financial matters rather than paying into a central pot which many other clubs operate. This allows our teams to organise social events and purchase new kit when they need to rather than when the club deems it necessary.
FA 3 Star Accrdedited Club

FA 3 Star Accrdedited Club acknowledges Nunnery Wood FC as attaining the most advanced level of club development and football provision. Clubs which achieve The FA accreditation are challenged to maintain high standards and, where appropriate, to improve and progress to new levels. The accreditation makes a positive difference to the way clubs are run and to people’s enjoyment of football. The FA aims to support all grassroots clubs to reach Charter Standard status through our network of County FA’s.
Clubs who achieve Accrdedited Club status are proud to prioritise qualified coaching and safeguarding as well as the values of The FA’s Respect campaign as part of their game. Nunnery Wood FC we are always looking at ways to grow participation, involve a variety of different people and offer different formats in their football environments.
Best Club of the Year – City of Worcester Sports Awards 2019

Nunnery Wood Colts FC was proudly named Best Club of the Year at the City of Worcester Sports Awards 2019, recognising the club’s outstanding commitment to grassroots football. The award celebrated the Colts’ dedication to providing a safe, secure and well-organised environment where young players can thrive both on and off the pitch.
As a Charter Standard Community Club, Nunnery Wood Colts FC has grown significantly, now supporting nearly 30 teams across a wide range of age groups. The club competes in major leagues, including the Midland Junior Premier League (MJPL), and places strong emphasis on long-term player and coach development. This includes ongoing support for coaches through high-quality training and UEFA B-level coaching sessions, ensuring the highest standards across all levels of the club.
Nunnery Wood FC Summer Tournaments

The Nunnery Wood FC Summer Festival is traditionally held on the last weekend of May, during the mid-summer school term. It has become one of Worcestershire’s must-attend football tournaments, enjoying excellent local press coverage year after year.
Over the course of the weekend, we welcome more than 100 teams from Under-7s to Under-14s, with clubs travelling from well beyond the local area to take part.
All funds raised through the festival are reinvested directly into the club, enabling us to purchase new goals and equipment, and to give our newly formed teams a strong financial foundation for kits and training gear.
The event is made possible by our incredible team of parent volunteers, whose time, commitment, and support are essential to the successful running of the tournament.
